💡 Key Concepts Every Direct Equity Investor Should Know
    Market Cap Tiers
Large caps are the biggest, most stable companies; mid and small caps can grow faster but swing far harder. The tier tells you roughly how much volatility to expect — not whether a stock is “good.”
    P/E & Valuation
The P/E ratio is what you pay for every ₹1 of a company’s annual profit. A high P/E means the market expects strong growth; a low one can signal value or trouble. It’s a question to investigate, never a buy/sell signal on its own.
    Concentration Risk
The big difference from a mutual fund: a single stock can fall to zero. Spreading money across companies and sectors is how direct investors manage the risk a diversified fund handles for you automatically.
    Demat & T+1 Settlement
Your shares are held electronically in a demat account with a depository (CDSL or NSDL). In India, trades settle on a T+1 basis — shares and money change hands one working day after the trade.
    Corporate Actions
Dividends pay out cash; a bonus issue or stock split gives you more shares at a lower price each (your total value is unchanged); a buyback returns cash by repurchasing shares. Know how each affects your holding before it happens.
    Market vs Limit Orders
A market order buys/sells immediately at the going price; a limit order only executes at a price you set. On less-liquid stocks a limit order protects you from nasty surprises — the price you see isn’t always the price you get.
